- This course consists of four modules: three compulsory modules (1, 2, and 5) and a module selected from a choice of two modules (3 or 4). Each module has five sections and a module test. The modules are thematic and focus on both fiction (short stories, novels, plays, poetry) and non-fiction (essays, articles, editorials, journals). Improving writing skills is one of the main goals of this course. Grammar workshops are included throughout the modules. Module choices must be made at registration.

In this English course, students will study and practice the art of writing, as improving writing is our main goal. They will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction and respond to these readings with various types of projects and assignments. They will read poetry and write poems of their own, study and evaluate modern media r, and study and respond to two novels: The Outsiders, and Touching Spirit Bear. Students are required to meet once weekly with their teacher within an online virtual classroom, and to fully participate in online discussion forums throughout each week. As this course will run strictly from September to the end of January (the 1st semester), students must keep up with the required work and hand in assignments on time. This is a teacher-led course, not a self-paced course. Use of an audio tape recorder is compulsory for listening and public speaking.

Created from En10v5 from Open School.- This course provides students with opportunities to read and view a variety of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. Learners are asked to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge in a variety of ways, including written, oral, and visual assignments. Each of the four modules is built up of a combination of lessons, section assignments, a module project, and a module test. There is a project in each of the four modules and a description of each project is discussed in the module introduction. Each of the five modules is built up of a combination of lessons, section assignments, and a module test (except Module 5, which does not have a test). The Module titles are: Module 1: Where you Fit In - Required Module 2: Reflections on Childhood (Who Has Seen the Wind) - Module 2 or 3 are the Option Modules. Module 3: Reflections on Childhood (Lord of the Flies) - Module 2 or 3 are the Option Modules. Module 4: The Tragedy of Macbeth - Required Module 5: Facts and Fiction - Required (No Test) English 11 contains a product called the Writer?s Style Guide. It refers to the conventions of spelling, punctuation, and layout that students' work should follow. The student should conform to this style guide when writing their essays.
